World Trade Center Savannah to offer seminar on export compliance

World Trade Center Savannah will offer a one-day seminar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 1 at at its Hutchinson Island location.

“Export Compliance in the New ACE Era” will address U.S. export operation regulation requirements and the new focus on compliance enforcement presented by the expansion and implementation of the Automated Commercial Environment program.

Brynn Grant, vice president of WTC-Savannah, said the purpose of the seminar is to update exporters and companies contemplating export on the latest rules and regulations.

“We want our region’s exporting companies to be as successful as they can be and that means saving them from costly errors related to compliance issues,” she said.

“This seminar will address the new higher level of visibility in export compliance enforcement and the need to make sure your company is doing it right,” she said, adding that anyone involved in export operations, as well as those new to the logistics industry should attend.

Indeed, the ACE program, which is being phased in now, is the primary system through which the trade community will now report imports and exports to the government.

It was a major topic of discussion when R. Gil Kerlikowske, then Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, was in Savannah late last year.

“We are looking at ACE to streamline and automate manual processes, eliminate paperwork and help the trade community more easily and efficiently comply with U.S. laws and regulations,” said Kerlikowske, who retired in January.

“That’s especially important when you consider that CBP represents 46 different agencies at 348 U.S. ports of entry,” he said.

“The ability to consolidate information into one computer system is huge — not only for us but for all our stakeholders.”

The seminar, sponsored by The World Academy, costs $75 and offers continuing education credits.
