Lunsford promotes Andrew Dodge to special teams coordinator

STATESBORO -- Georgia Southern interim head coach Chad Lunsford made his first personnel decision Tuesday by promoting director of student-athlete development Andrew Dodge to special teams coordinator and nickels coach.

The position is the first on-field coaching role for Dodge, who spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons at Colorado State, where dismissed head coach Tyson Summers was a defensive coordinator, as a defensive quality control assistant. Dodge was also a graduate assistant at Central Florida, another program where Summers served as defensive coordinator.

“I am thankful and extremely excited about the opportunity to coach special teams and the nickels,” Dodge said in a prepared statement released by Georgia Southern. “Our players have done an outstanding job with their effort and enthusiasm in special teams and on defense and we want to continue to build off of that.”

Dodge is in his first season at Georgia Southern.
