DT Ian Bush out indefinitely with elbow injury

Before the season began, Georgia Southern defensive coordinator Lorenzo Costantini said he wasn’t too concerned about the depth of his young defensive line because of how many young players he planned on rotating this season.

But one of the Eagles’ most experienced players in that unit, redshirt junior defensive tackle, Ian Bush, went down with an injury during Saturday’s season opener at Auburn.

Head coach Tyson Summers said Bush dislocated his elbow and is out indefinitely.

Bush had registered one tackle against the Tigers before he went down with an injury. He stayed on the ground for several minutes and received treatment from the athletic trainers of both Georgia Southern and Auburn. Bush laid still while trainers carefully placed a brace on Bush’s left arm.

“I really feel for Ian,” Summers said. “He’s worked extremely hard to get back to this point, having a rough start to his career but has really done a good job since he got back. We’re looking forward to hopefully getting some good news back and getting him back in a couple weeks.”

Bush was listed as a second-team defender on Georgia Southern's preseason depth chart.

Georgia Southern's defensive line got off to a good start Saturday, sacking Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham three times after registering just 11 all of last season. The GS defense also had seven tackles for loss and two forced fumbles, both recovered by the Eagles.
